Cardinal Fish Care Sheet

Cardinalfish are relaxed slower swimmers by nature. It is not common, however, they could become a tad aggressive towards other Cardinalfish or smaller similar-looking fish which is why they do well in groups of at least 4-5.

Cardinals do well in tanks that have plenty of live rock or plants to so they feel safe with various hiding spots. In the wild, Cardinalfish are known for using sea urchins to provide protection as they do not get stung by the spines due to their thicker skin. Not only will the Cardinal hang out around Urchins, but they also will spend time around and inside Anemones, Soft Corals and Mangrove roots almost like Clownfish and Aneomes.

A social little fish, the Cardinalfish for sale do best in smaller groups or schools of 3-4 or more as long as they are kept in an appropriately sized aquarium.  An aquarium that is 20-30 gallons minimum works.

Single cardinals and can be kept in a tank of 20 gallons easily. Larger marine aquarium tanks could allow for larger schools of cardinalfish. Like many species of fish that school, the Cardinalfish will form a hierarchy when kept in smaller groups within the aquarium setting.  Cardinalfish for sale are a great choice for beginner aquarists.  Lastly, banners are known to be active, hardy, easy to care for, and easily adapt to captive feeding.

Cardinalfish Diet & Feeding

Cardinals are carnivorous fish meaning they need meat.  For this reason, Cardinalfish for sale should be fed a diet of vitamin-enriched Brine or Mysis shrimp, along with other finely chopped meaty preparations. They will thrive in a temperature range of 73-80°F and a pH of 8.0-8.5.  They also will take flake and high-quality marine pellets to vary their diet.
