Snowflake eels are native to parts of the Pacific Ocean and can be found living in reefs in the Indo-Pacific. Also, they can be found along the western coast of the United States, Mexico, and Central America. Interestingly, they can even be found as well by Hawaii. These guys aren’t huge eels and therefore fit many saltwater aquarium fish setups. Typically, a baby snowflake eel grow to about 2 to 3 feet in length. From time to time, they can get close to 4 feet long. The snowflake eel is recognizable for their colorful pattern which is composed of a silvery-white body. You will find unique broken speckled bands of dark brown to black and yellow spotting. Their head from the eyes to the tip of the snout has no markings. The eyes are curious and will have a yellow ring around them.

How big of a tank does a Snowflake need? well, a minimum tank size is at least 50-gallon saltwater fish tank.. Yet these cute little eels are known to be escape artists and the top of your tank must be secured and tight. Another habitat must is a good amount of live rock for the eel to hide in. Keep in mind that any stacked rock must be carefully secured so the eel can’t topple it with its wriggling and it needs these hiding places.
Feeding your new pet Eel
Feeding your new pet eel can be easy, and super important to keeping them healthy and the tank conditions optimal. Keep your Snowflake well-fed with meaty foods! Snowflake eels love to eat shrimp, squid, clams, mussels, and fish. Snowflake morays should be fed only two or three times per week. Don’t hand feed them! You’ll get a painful bite.
